UNEXPECTED VIOLENCE

Violence can happen to anyone at anytime. It can be frightening because it is unexpected and if it happens to our loved ones we can become fearful.Someone else violence is not your fault. In hindsight you might have seen something you could have done to prevent it and most likely not.

PROTECT

Certain steps to take to guarantee help when unexpected violence occurs whether its to yourself or people you care about.

  1. Cal the police immediately
  2. Go to Emergency immediately
  3. Ask for assistance or help right away. Ask who you should talk too?
  4. Tell the truth. State the facts. Don’t keep secrets for anybody.

There is a saying in Al anon we are only as sick as our secrets.. We get sick when we hold onto secrets to protect ourselves from being embarrassed or ashamed. Just stick to the facts tell the truth. It is not your fault and something good can become of this. The person who is violent gets stopped and hopefully the help they need. If you are a victim of violence in Canada there is help for you through victim services, never be ashamed to ask for help. If the victim is under 19 they get professional therapy help for life. If you are related to the victim you get professional help for up to two years and longer if you need it. You are never alone unless you chose to be. Ask for the help you need..

Ask yourself are your actions and speaking in alignment with what you are committed to? Look at what are the habitual patterns that have that commitment thwarted?  Are you willing to take responsibility for when it doesn’t go that way you want or the way you expected and clean up your part? Are you willing to let go of Expectations of yourself and others?  What are you not being truthful about to yourself and others.

Our thoughts can be like a junk drawer-we need to take inventory and get rid of what is  not useful! (wendy b)
