The Battle Of The Two Wolves #444

One evening, a Cherokee elder told his granddaughter about the battle that goes on inside people’s heads,

He said, “My daughter, the battle is between the two ‘wolves’ that live inside us all.

“One is unhappiness. It is fear, worry, anger, jealousy, sorrow, self-pity, resentment, and inferiority. The other is happiness. It is joy, love, hope, serenity, kindness, generosity, truth, and compassion.”

The granddaughter thought about it for a minute and then asked her grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied: “The one you feed”

The happiest people are the ones who practice gratitude and focus on loving life consistently (along with having goals and making progress towards them).

Every evening as you go over your day find five things to be grateful for and appreciate. The more you do this, the more you will find things to be happy about. Some you might not have even considered or thought about until you practice this daily ritual. With this daily practice, you will see gifts in situations that you wouldn’t have otherwise.

I have been practicing that practicie (5 things to be grateful for) every evening before I end my day for over thirty years. What’s exciting is after 3o years it is natural. It wasn’t natural at first. Now even when disasters happen I can see the good within minutes even in sad situations. an example. a young very close relative chose to abort her child. My faith has me not to choose that path. I was very sad and grieved the loss of the unborn child. At the same time, I knew this was her best choice to take care of herself. She felt she wasn’t capable of raising another child. I respected her choice if that is what made her happy. Another sad thing happened this year around the death of my nephew. He was young only 28. He had been hospitalized for the last 5 years. I was devasted hearing about his death. Then I was able to see that, he had suffered for years and now was at peace. I’m not saying it’s easy but if you practice being grateful on a regular basis you will eventually see the good even in the bad or sad things.

So my invitation is to think of 100 things that could make you happy. I list a few and I invite you to write a few yourself

A baby’s smile. A baby’s laughter. Puppies playing. Kittens playing. Great food. Playing board games with people you love. Winning $10.00 in the lottery. Fresh peaches off the tree. Fresh strawberries picked out of the Garden. Fresh blueberries picked from the garden. My granddaughter hugging my leg My granddaughter letting me know she loves me. Me letting my granddaughter know I love her. A gift of flowers. Going out to dinner with people I care about. Landing the contract I wanted. Finding unexpected monies in pockets of my coats. Getting an unexpected call from a good friend. Blowing bubbles with my granddaughter. Riding my bike. Going for a walk. Watching the bubble bees flit from flower to flower. Watching the butterflies. Watching the squirrels run across my fence. Listening to the laughter of the neighbor’s kids playing.

I could go on and on. What is on your list of 100 things that make you happy?

Go for it!  I want on my gravestone she burned out instead of rusted out!  What do you want them to say about you?
Ask yourself are your actions and speaking in alignment with what you are committed to? Look at what are the habitual patterns that have that commitment thwarted?  Are you willing to take responsibility for when it doesn’t go the way you want or the way you expected and clean up your part? Are you willing to let go of Expectations of yourself and others?  What are you not being truthful about to yourself and others?
Our thoughts can be like a junk drawer-we need to take inventory and get rid of what is not useful! (wendy b)
